2001-08-21 - 5:45 p.m. - was it something someone said?

today started out normal enough. picked up some gifts for some people i love (cd singles fo everyone, except mom and dad, they get nicer stuff). then i checked out some record shops ferugs suggested to which i must say very nice, i dont know how i missed them. Reckless was definitely the standout. Select-a-disc was nice but mostly stuff i can find in the states. thanks for the input. gave me something to do.

as i was leaving the record shop and heading toward the oxford tube i was enveloped in a large crowd of people. the river of souls swept me down the street and away from the oxford tube toward tottenham court. i was kind of angry and annoyed that i couldn't move in the direction i needed to. and then i saw why. there was a police line blocking the road to the left. apparently a large of chunk of the oxford circus area was closed off i dont know why yet. red double decker buses lined the street. there were at least 30 all stopped with nowhere to go. i took a picture and felt like a tourist. as i neared the tube stop a large group of emergency vehicles drove by. i dont know how many of you have heard sirens in a large city but it is a bizarre sensation. when the vehicles are in front of you the sound of their sirens is very acute and discernible. but once they pass you the sound bounces around every building and person in sight and then off of the back of your ear lobes so it sounds like nothing more than ghosts of children wailing and screaming. the definition of the sound is blurred and then dissappears.

i found out that the oxford tube stop was completely closed on police order. it scares me. i was only about two blocks away. i wonder what went down?

i guess ill go watch the news. so if i found out what was up i guess ill have something to update about one last time.
